WHEN Tarisai Changara won promotion to the MTN Premier League of Swaziland with Tambuti FC two years ago it was a plus and Saul Chaminuka followed it up with Matsapha United making it a brace.
But last week on Saturday Mbabane Citizens coached by Ikabort Masocha completed a a?Zimbosa? hat trick guiding the side to the elite league.
Citizens had tottering towards the promotion line in the last month or so but there was no other way last Saturday when they beat third placed Madlenya 3-0 to clinch one of the two promotion berths and move within two points of completing the gold medal rush which looks possible with a tieA against mid-table Tinyosi.
Three Zimbabwean coaches seemed to have won the year for a team that started off the season under Masocha before Hebert Maruwa took over. The former later returned to the fold and somewhere along the lines Tarisai Changara turned assistant coach for just four matches.
Changara has since joined Ntambankhulu Callies and has since won two matches to move the team out of the relegation zone and strengthen chances of having at least one Zimbabwe born coach in the NFD next season.
An elated Masocha paid tribute to the players for enduring through to the home zone.
a?Firstly I pay tribute to Saul Chaminuka and Tarisai Changara for raising the flag high in this league, it would not have been possible for me to be hired without their good record in this league. I also want to pay tribute to Hebert Maruwa for being a good replacement when I went back to Zimbabwe.
a?Above all I also need to pay tribute to the players for carrying the energy through even when at some stage it looked as if they were running out of steam. Now they have to focus on the gold medal which is now within reach.
a?I am excited that I have got this far in this competitive league and I have come out richer from this campaign and hopefully I will take it to the next level which is the premiership. It was not that easy but we had to win something at the end of the day,a? said Masocha.
Changara paid tribute to Masocha.
a?When I won promotion two years ago I felt a big rise in my experience as a coach and I know this is precisely the feeling Masocha is going through now. I worked with him for about four games at Citizens and he was a good mentor for me. I gained a lot from him. He has proven that we Zimbabweans can compete with our expertise in Swaziland,a? said Changara.
Chaminuka congratulated Masocha on promotion.
