After having postponed last yearas ceremony in order to accommodate Bob Marleyas family, the Zimbabwe Music Awards (Zima) are still no closer to announcing a date for the ceremony.
The countryas premier music award show postponed last yearas ceremony as the family of Marley, who is the recipient of the Lifetime Achievement Award, could only attend the ceremony in 2016.
However, the high profile visit of Marleyas family was itself shrouded in mystery after it emerged last month that Marleyas family did not know about the invitation.
A fortnight into 2016 and the countryas other big arts ceremony looming on the horizon, the final date for the Zimas is still shrouded in mystery.
In an interview, Zima spokesperson Farai Chapoterera said that the awards ceremony was still holding off on making any announcement on the date and guests for the show.
Despite the presence of Marleyas family having been earmarked as the highlight of the ceremony, Chapoterera said that Zima was in talks with a potential financial backer that would determine the final guest list of the ceremony.
a?We are in talks with key partners and what we decide will affect our final guest list and the artistes that will perform at the ceremony. We held meetings on Monday and Wednesday and hopefully we will be in a position to announce something substantive soon,a? she said.
Chapoterera said that although everything was seemingly on hold, the organisers were working hard on the logistics of the show behind the scenes.
a?It may seem like we are not doing anything at the moment but in reality we are working hard behind the scenes. We are already working on the choreography for the final ceremony,a? she said.
