Nhlalwenhle Ncube
TEN years later, a woman from Mwenezi is still in a dilemma on who fathered her child as four men raped her around the same time.

The unfortunate woman, now aged 42, claims that at times she was raped twice a day.

It all happened in 2006 and 2007 but she didnat report to the police until this year when her siblings seriously quizzed her about the paternity of her child.

The matter was then reported at Tshabalala Police Station in Bulawayo.

The four men from Zvinonyanya village who allegedly raped her are Anos Chireza, Edmore Mataka, Winnie Madhaiza and Zograph Ndlovu.

They were all neighbours of the complainant but only Mataka and Ndlovu were arrested. Chireza is said to have died some years ago while Madhaiza relocated to South Africa.

Mataka and Ndlovu appeared before Mwenezi magistrate Honest Musiiwa facing rape charges.

The court heard that sometime between 2006 and 2007, the complainant who was aged 32 at the time was raped by four villagers at numerous times resulting in her falling pregnant.

On an unknown date in 2006, the complainant was coming from Chizumba Dam where she was working on a food for work programme and she met Anos Chireza who then pulled her off the footpath and asked to be intimate with her.

After she had refused, Chireza took a switch and threatened to beat her before raping her once. He ordered her not to tell anyone and she never did.

From the day in question, Chireza raped her numerous times. He would send some children to call her on his behalf and when she got to his home, he would then rape her. At times after noticing that the woman was home alone, he would go to her home and rape her.

On an unknown date, sometime in 2006, the complainant was coming from a borehole carrying a bucket full of water when Edmore Mataka and Winnie Madhaiza approached her. Mataka took the bucket from her head before raping her once while Madhaiza watched.

Madhaiza reportedly told Mataka to move fast and finish. After finishing, Madhaiza also raped her once.

On the following morning, she told her aunt who then informed her grandmother. Unfortunately, her grandmother after meeting Madhaiza was mum claiming they had resolved the issue.

On another day, the complainant was going to the garden between Mwenezana River and Mwenezana Shopping Centre when she met Zograph Ndlovu who tripped her before raping her once.

He ordered her not to tell anyone and at times he visited her during the night and pulled her out of the yard towards the granary where he forcibly had sex with her.

After being raped several times by these four men, the complainant realised she was pregnant and she gave birth to a baby girl. After giving birth, Ndlovu allegedly continued raping her until 2011 when she moved to Bulawayo to stay with her aunt.

In 2017, her brother and sister demanded to know the whereabouts of the father of her child and it is when the complainant narrated her ordeal. They advised her to report the matter to the police resulting in the arrest of the two suspects.

Mataka and Ndlovu were remanded in custody to 18 October.
