VILLAGERS from Sidiadi Village under Chief Mkoka in Gokwe killed and skinned a stray crocodile that had been terrorising them.
Headman Chaselwa of Sidiadi Village said villagers hunted down the crocodile which was resident at Kana River, asA� they feared that it would prey on children.
a�?There was a crocodile that terrorised villagers in our village. It killed more than 20 goats, more than 20 pigs and more that 10 calves in the area.
a�?We were afraid that it was going to kill children so we agreed to kill it after we set up a trap. Childrena��s lives were in danger so we had to react very fast to save them because most children usually play near Kana River,a�? he said.
Headman Chaselwa said villagers skinned the crocodile after killing it and they found goat and pig pieces inside.
a�?Villagers skinned the crocodile after killing it and they found pieces of goat and pig pieces inside. Ever since we killed it, our livestock is safe,a�? he said.
He said that was not the first case in the village, as villagers had to endure running battles with a stray cheetah that was also killing cows, two months ago.
a�?Two months ago we had a similar case of a cheetah that was killing livestock. We had to call the responsible authorities to take it as we feared it was going to attack people as well,a�? he said.
