An unemployed man from Nketa suburb in Bulawayo bashed his wife and threatened to kill her for refusing to hand over maintenance money that was meant for the womanas child from a previous marriage.
Terry Arnold Ndlovu could not stomach that his wife Nokuthaba Sibanda decided to spend her child maintenance money on the upkeep of the minor instead of handing it over to him to squander on alcohol.
Sibanda receives a monthly allowance of $100 from her ex-husband, whose name was not revealed in court.
While the couple were sleeping at home sometime last week, Sibanda received a notification from mobile money services provider a EcoCash a that $100 had been sent by her ex-hubby for monthly maintenance of their child.
The accused Ndlovu sprang into action and demanded the money.
a?When I received a confirmation message that my ex-husband had deposited my monthly allowance, he instantly asked for the money. I did not agree with him, that is when he started beating me up, threatening to kill me,a? the court heard.
Ndlovu then ordered Sibanda to go and sleep with tenants if she wanted to be alive the next morning.
Ndlovu appeared before Western Commonage magistrates courts facing physical assault charges.
In his defence Ndlovu claimed that the initial arrangement with his wife was that the maintenance money would be used for a night of boozing.
a?Your worship, I agree l did a wrong thing by threatening to kill her but I am having a big problem with my wife because she is full of lies,a? said Ndlovu.
The court heard that Ndlovu had a tendency of not wanting to contribute anything in his matrimonial home, hence his anger when ends fail to meet.
