Top Kenyan coach for Zimbabwe

A TOP Kenyan athletics coach is expected to be in the country for the third edition of the Sports Leadersa�� Institute of Zimbabwe (SLIZ) sports management winter camp scheduled for Masvingo next week.

Edward Muema Munyuti, a Kenyatta University lecturer and committee member of the African Sport Management Association has been invited to address participates at the winter camp at Great Zimbabwe from 22-24 July.

He holds a Bachelors of Education Degree and a post graduate diploma in Sports Administration and is currently pursuing Masters in Sports and Leisure Management at Kenyatta University.

SLIZ director Russell Mhiribidi said hosting key note speakers at the sports management winter camp was meant to give sports administrators that will take part value for money.

a�?Kenya is renowned for producing world class athletes and the presence of Munyuti who has worked with top runners in his native country is a big boost for our sports management winter camp,a�? said Mhiribidi.

Other keynote speakers include Devota Marwa from Tanzaniaa��s University of Dar es Salaam who will present a paper on sports marketing.

Musunza Sombwa from the Olympic Youth Development Centre in Zambia will speak on podium athlete development (PAD).

The three-day workshop is a platform where administrators can brainstorm solutions to the challenges being faced in sports codes across the board.

Registration fee to participate at the winter camp is $365 for SLIZ members with non-members paying $450.

The SLIZ is a body whose mission is to facilitate and provide a conducive environment for optimum growth and advancement of the nationa��s sports leaders with emphasis on capacity building and professional development in line with existing global trends.

Mhiribidi said it was important for sports leaders to understand that turning around the fortunes of national sport would not be an overnight event.

SLIZ are targeting representatives from national sporting associations, tertiary institutions, Naph and Nash as well as football clubs to attend this capacity building workshop.

FC Platinum sent their representatives for last yeara��s edition and clubs like Bantu Rovers who value junior development are expected to participate at the winter camp.
