Ten clean sheets for ‘Mangoye’

Fungai Muderere
HIGHLANDERS goal minder Ariel a?Mangoyea? Sibanda has had an epic 2018 season keeping 10 clean sheets from the 18 starts he has had so far for the Bulawayo football giants.

Reigning Goalkeeper of the Year, Elvis Chipezeze who was formerly with Chicken Inn, produced a stunning 18 clean sheets from 31 starts in the 2018 season.

Sibanda, a former Plumtree High School pupil, has only missed two matches owing to a red card that he got when his club went 1-0 at the hands of newbies Bulawayo Chiefs at Barbourfields Stadium.

Last Saturday, the soft spoken shot stopper, emerged as a Bosso hero, after he saved a Russell Madamombe penalty in a match that Madinda Ndlovuas Highlanders charges edged Triangle 1-0 at Gibbo Stadium last Saturday.

Binga-bred striker Newman Sianchali scored for Bosso as early as the seventh minute.

Without the power and influence of Sibanda, the result could have been different. The Bosso shot-stopper made almost half a dozen saves, including the second half penalty save.

a?Itas not a mean achievement. Special mention goes to our clubas goalkeepers coach Tembo Chuma and the rest of the technical team. The other goalkeepers in the team (Prosper Matutu and Nedrick Madeya) are also pushing me to continue working hard. Itas all about team effort,a? said Sibanda in a brief interview with B-Metro Sport.

In 2012 Sibanda (29) was voted among the 11 Soccer Stars of the Year and he was also named Goalkeeper of The Year.

He seems to be in great form ahead of Bossoas potentially explosive encounter against Dynamos set for next Sunday deep in the bowels of Barbourfields Stadium.
