Talent Maphosa parts ways with Red Lions, goes club hunting

FORMER Matshiyakwakhiwe and Mbabane Swallows defender, Talent Maphosa is club searching after parting ways with MTN Premier League of Eswatini outfit Red Lions midway last season.

This correspondent caught up with Maphosa on Tuesday afternoon as he jealously watched his former paymasters, Swallows take on Etoile Sportive du Sahel in the 22nd Total Caf Champions League Group D match day 3 tie at Mavuso Sports Centre.

The Zimbabwe-born defender said since parting ways with Red Lions over unpaid salaries, he had briefly relocated to South Africa at the sisteras invitation before returning to Eswatini a fortnight ago.

a?Some of these teams forget that we have families to feed and expect us to take to the field with an empty stomach and unpaid rent and bills and win matches. It was so sad that it got as far as boycotting.

a?As it is I am unattached and have since obtained my clearance from Red Lions but I am not in a hurry to get a team. I will have to scrutinise the offers as they come as I have to avoid past mistakes like the last contract,a? said Maphosa.

Quizzed on the possibility of returning to Mbabane Swallows given that he was passionately following his former side, Maphosa quashed the possibility.

a?There is a reason why Swallows is not one of the options. It was so difficult to leave the team for any of the local teams so I just have to be very careful before considering any possibility of returning to Swallows but for now itas not one of my choices,a? added Maphosa.

With just a month before the first kick-off to the 2018/ 19 MTN Premier League of Eswatini, only time is the best prophet to the next destination but for the player who has also played for Monomotapa and Njube Sundowns missing the pre-season conditioning might work against him.
