Panthers Taekwondo Club will this Saturday hold a family fun day to promote Taekwondo sport and identify and groom aspiring athletes at Leisure Centre, Burnside in Bulawayo.
President of Panthers Taekwondo Club Vusumuzi Ncube indicated that most parents have negative perceptions about the sport.
a?Most parents have little information about the sport. For quite a long time the long standing belief is that children who partake in this sport become bullies and troublesome in society. However, that is not true because this sport teaches discipline and moulds the character of a child,a? said Ncube.
In a bid to create a positive perception and acceptance of the sport among parents, Ncube said they will explain to parents what the sport involves.
a?We will dish out pamphlets to parents who will be in attendance and we will use that opportunity to explain what the sport involves and its benefits both to the parent and the child,a? he said.
He paid tribute to the wonderful gesture shown by sponsors.
a?I would like to thank sponsors who responded swiftly when we approached them appealing for help and they have made this event a reality,a? he said. To help in creating positive perception Ncube revealed that six Taekwondo players will conduct displays.
a?There will be children who will be conducting display on Taekwondo techniques and that will help in creating acceptance to the parents,a? he said.
a?We had sent about 300 invitation letters to parents inviting them to bring their children who are between ages of three years old to 14 years old. We are glad that about 250 have confirmed their attendance in tomorrowas event,a? said Ncube.
