MASVINGO a A Form 3 student committed suicide at a Zaka school after the headmaster allegedly refused to give him his end-of-term report.
Delight Makuvaza, of Mutimwi High School, hanged himself in a hill at the school after the headmaster, Taurai Masekeni, reportedly withheld his school report.
The teenas body was found hanging from a musasa tree by another student who was fetching firewood at around 4pm on the same day.
Makuvaza is alleged to have insulted a teacher at the school.
The headmaster then withheld his report and sent him home to get his guardians for a disciplinary hearing.
Sources at the school, however, said Makuvaza did not insult any teacher but only made noise during the school term closing ceremony which angered the headmaster.
They said Makuvaza lived with an uncle who used to severely punish the boy whenever he received a report about indiscipline at school.
Afraid to go home and face the uncleas wrath, the boy is said to have tried to negotiate with the headmaster to give him his report.
The head would not budge and the student ended up taking his own life.
Masvingo provincial ZRP spokesperson, Assistant Inspector Nkululeko Nduna, confirmed the incident and said police do not suspect foul play.
He, however, urged students to seek counselling from school authorities whenever they have problems. aNewZimbabwe.com predn.
