Petra Twenty20 cricket tourney roars into life

THE annual eight-team Petra Twenty20 cricket tournament is scheduled for Friday and Saturday at Petra High School.

Christian Brothers College (CBC) head into the event as defending champions after they overpowered Prince Edward in last yeara��s final in a tournament that had, hitherto been dominated by Harare schools since its inception in 2009.

Kyle College from Masvingo, winners in 2014 also make a return to the event after missing last yeara��s competition which saw them being unable to defend their title.

The draw has been carried out and Group A is made up of Petra, PE, Milton and Eaglesvale while in pool B there is CBC, Hellenic, Churchill and Kyle.

ZB Bank are the main sponsors of the two-day event with NMB also coming in as part sponsors.

Winners of the tournament will walk away with the Comarton Consultants Trophy while a shield is in store for the runners-up.

The most outstanding player of the tournament will be rewarded with the Sharne Mayers, a national women cricket team player who was part of the Petra first team in 2010.

Also in store are the Saleem Manuel individual trophies for the best batsman, bowler and fielder at the tournament.

Manuel, now based in South Africa was the Petra first team vice captain in 2010 and his family has continued to sponsor the awards over the years.
