BULAWAYO Metropolitan Cricket League Two side National University of Science and Technology has shown disregard over the docking of five points after they were accused of fielding an ineligible player.
Last week, B-Metro Sport reported that Nust were punished for fielding an ineligible player. However, it has since emerged that the player is registered with the students but went on to feature for a team which Nust was playing against on that particular day.
In an email sent to the cricket board by one of the Nust cricket team members, Tapiwa Charumbira, he indicated that the decision to dock them five points was a a?circusa? as they did not field Siza Ndlovu in their squad.
a?We are being accused of using Siza when he actually played against us when we played Nketa Cricket Club. The board needs to act and bring sanity in its fixtures management portfolio before the sport plunges into total disaster,a? read the email from Charumbira.
According to one of the leagueas board members, Passmore Vareta, Ndlovu was registered to play for the students and could not feature for any other team in the same league like what he did when he played for Nketa which is also a league two side.
a?Nust was punished for allowing their player to feature in a team they played against, points were also deducted for Nketa who used the player registered for Nust who are on the same league with them,a? Vareta said.
In defence, the boardas fixures secretary Victor Mhlanga said he had to deduct the points as he was using the score sheets brought before him after the game and according to what he saw, he had to take action against the students.
a?I work with what is brought in front of me and that is why I had to reach such a decision. However, Nust has appealed and the matter is being resolved by our board,a? Mhlanga said.
Champions, a third league side which Ndlovu is also claimed to be registered for, called for the board to also hold players responsible for their actions.
a?Players should also be penalised in their personal capacity for bringing confusion in the league,a? read an email from Champions.
