THE Ngezi Platinum train, which enjoyed a rather smooth ride since the start of the 2018 Premier Soccer League season, might seem to be derailing of late but the club executive still has faith in its locomotive driver a Tonderai Ndiraya.
In simple words: Ndiraya is not going anywhere, so says club chairman Jeremiah Gesiteni.
Four defeats have condemned Ngezi Platinum a ironically the early pacesetters in the league when the 2018 season kicked into action in April a into a distance second-placed side behind league toppers FC Platinum.
In football language a coach is as good as his last win thus a subsequent defeat can condemn a gaffer into the unemployment wagon.
But Ndiraya is a lucky man.
His employers are sticking to the bold shaven man even when it seems the much sought after league title is slipping though his fingers.
a?Obviously we are not happy with the current defeats that the team has been posting but football is a game of winning and losing but that doesnat mean we will crucify our coach.
a?Every team, even the best in the world, goes through bad patches so we have to accept the fact that things have not been going well but itas important that we pick ourselves up and start working towards our objectives,a? said club boss Gesiteni.
Talk on social media and among football rumour mongers has been that Ngezi Platinum has offered players and the technical team a?extraa? incentives if the team lands both hands on the Promised Land a the league title.
It has happened before.
Years back Absa Premiership side Sundowns owner Patrice Motsepe offered his players and technical team the full share of the prize money for winning the league title across the Limpopo River.
a?When targets are set its obvious the team has to be offered incentives to achieve those goals but we havenat promised the team anything for winning the league. Incentives could have been promised for winning certain matches but not for clinching the league title,a? said Gasiteni.
The PSL transfer window period opened on 1 July.
Like any other team, Ngezi Platinum will add and drop players.
a?The coaches have a few players on their wish list so we will look into those and make the necessary additions and subtractions,a? he added.
