MIS EARTH

Miss Earth Zim highs and lows

a?BEAUTY without intelligence is like a masterpiece painted on a napkin,a? This aptly points out that intelligence coupled with beauty could propel one to stardom.
The beauty without brains syndrome continues to haunt the local beauty pageantry judging by the level of ignorance some models continue to show during the mandatory question and answer segment.

Answers which were given by some of the models who took part in Miss Earth Zimbabwe that was held at the Bulawayo Theatre on Saturday left judges and the audience shocked.

One of the biggest blows of the night was Bulawayoas own Nothabo Simela who happened to be the crowdas favourite and was tipped to be the one who will walk away with the crown.

The model was asked about the recent deal which was signed by the government of Zimbabwe and China. The deal will see among others, a Chinese company constructing five power stations, the size of the Hwange Power Station along the Gwayi area. The model sent the crowd in stitches after she failed to elaborate on the implications of the construction on the fragile ecosystem.

One of the models from Harare was asked what she would do if she won one million dollars (US). She sent the crowd into laughter when she said she would donate all of it to the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) in Harare. She justified her answer saying the company is doing a good job but they lack funding.

Some of the beauties stammered as they tried to answer questions showing lack of confidence in the answers which they were giving.

In May, it was the same case during the Carnival Queen pageant which was held in Harare. One of the models failed to answer what seemed to be one of the simplest questions of the night after she was asked to name three traditional foods.

However, Miss Earth Zimbabwe crowning ceremony saw Sandisiwe Bhule (25) from Bulawayo being crowned Miss Earth Zimbabwe 2014.

The first runner up was Nomsa Nyathi from Kwekwe who was crowned Miss Earth Fire taking over from Baye Pigeons. Lebo Magona and Nonthuthuzelo Sisale both from Bulawayo were crowned Miss Earth Water and Miss Earth Air respectively.
