ONE match separates three contenders from clinching the Eastern Region Division Oneas sole ticket to the premiership next season.

Former premiership side Masvingo United might make a comeback into the elite league as they lead the Eastern Region Division One log standings with only a game to go.

The tightly contested league saw Masvingo going top after defeating Melfort 4-0 while leaders Mutare City were held to a 0-0 draw by third placed Heartly Academy last weekend.

Going into week 33 Masvingo and Heartly Academy were tied on 44 points with the former on top due to a superior goal difference and were trailing leaders Mutare City by only a point.

What makes the Eastern Region battle interesting is the fact that all the top three teams have a chance to clinch the sole premiership promotion ticket as only a point separates them from each other.

Masvingo are now on 66 points, with Mutare City closely following a point behind. Heartly are on third as they also trail City by a point.

A win for Masvingo in their final game against Mutoko will ensure a comeback for Yuna Yuna who were relegated in 2011while a slip-up will present the other teams with a chance to claim the championship.

All the other regions have confirmed teams that won promotion and will be participating in the topflight next season while the Eastern one is still ongoing as the league started a bit late after some teams took too long to pay the $3000 affiliation fees.

Other teams that have been promoted to the topflight are Bulawayo City from the Southern Region, Border Strikers from the Central Region and Ngezi Platinum from the Northern Region.
