A 22-YEAR-OLD man from Mbizo suburb in Kwekwe was fatally stabbed with a knife by a fellow patron outside a night club during a misunderstanding over a suspected lady of the night.
Acting Midlands provincial police spokesperson Assistant Inspector Ethel Mukwende confirmed the alleged murder of Alex Katambarare of Mbizo suburb in Kwekwe on Monday at Mbizo Inn Night Club.
“Police in Mbizo suburb in Kwekwe are investigating a case of murder in which Alex Katambarare of Mbizo in Kwekwe died after being stabbed to death with a knife over a girlfriend by another patron at Mbizo Inn Night Club on Monday,” she said.
Asst Insp Mukwende said on the night in question Katambarare was allegedly drinking beer in the company of his friend Takawira Chaitezvi.
During the beer drink Katambarare allegedly went outside the club and started talking to a suspected lady of the night.
“A man only identified as Kelvin who was with his friend confronted Katambarare and slapped him on the face accusing him of talking to his girlfriend. The now deceased then ran away but the suspects allegedly followed him in hot pursuit before tripping him to the ground,” said Asst Insp Mukwende.
She said Chaitezvi went out of the club and allegedly saw the suspects assaulting Katambarare who was lying on the ground.
“It is alleged that one of the suspects drew a knife from his pocket and stabbed the now deceased all over his body before they fled from the scene. Chaitezvi reported the matter to a police officer on patrol. They rushed to the scene and found the lifeless body of Katambarare in a pool of blood,” said Asst Insp Mukwende.
She said the alleged suspects are still on the run.
“We appeal to anyone who might have information of the whereabouts of these suspects to make a report to any police station,” said Asst Insp Mukwende.
