MACONESE: Footy star swindles high school pupil

DURING his playing days Zvenyika Makonese was a steely defender always hard with the tackle, but now he has been accused of tackling a high school pupil off his R100.

Makonese who is reported to have been a tout since 2012 after his fallout with management at Orlando Pirates in South Africa, is accused of being untrustworthy by a Zimbabwean family based in South Africa that used him to send money and groceries to their son.

He delivered groceries to their intended destination (Gweru) but withheldA money meant for Thembani Makhubaloas transport to school. Sphiwe Ncube who is Thembanias mother told B-Metro from her base in South Africa of how Makonese swindled them.

a?I gave Zvenyika parcels which included groceries and R100 coins which were meant for my kidas transport from home to school for two weeks. I was shocked to hear that only the groceries were seen,a? she said.

But thinking that there was a mix-up and a national hero from a few years ago involved there must have been an explanation, she looked for answers.

a?I even engaged the bus companyas management (which Zvenyika was understood to be working for). They promised to look into the issue,a? saidA Ncube.

It turned outA Makonese uses a new name as his business card belonging to K and M Luxury Coaches identifies him as Norbert Zvenyika working as a Coach Host at the company. With mix-ups and unexplained tales cropping, Ncubeas husband decided to put a male touch to the issue.

Eventually Makonese owned up to the unfaithful conduct.

a?Itas been almost a month now yet he (Makonese) keeps on saying he will send the money through EcoCash,a? said Patrick Ncube.

An A K and M Luxury Coaches supervisor who only identified himself as Mr Mike confirmed knowing Makonese but denied having received reports to do with his rip-off.

a?We havenat received any complaints with regards to Zvenyika. Yes we always help him with transport to Zimbabwe and back to South Africa for free whenever he has business to take care of since he is one of us (countrymen) but he doesnat work here,a? Mr Mike said.A However, sources close to the proceedings allege that due to this skirmish and many others, Makonese had since been relieved of his duties at the company.

When B-Metro contacted Makonese for comment he refuted all the allegations.

a?I was never given any money or parcel by any one, besides why would I not deliver such money as little as R100,a? said Makonese.
