PLATINUM a one of the most expensive and sought after metals in the world a has turned out to be a major sponsor in Zimbabwean football with platinum mining companies pouring serious money in local soccer.

FC Platinum and Ngezi Platinum are no doubt the richest and highest playing teams in local football.

In the Eastern parts of the country a in Mutare to be precise a a diamond sponsored team is making waves in Division One and is already sending overtures to threaten platinum miners as the money bags of local soccer.

Coached by none other than nomadic coach Luke Masomere, Zifa Eastern Region League side Manica Diamond are cruising their way into the Premier Soccer League campaign next season.

Four points adrift their nearest opponents, Tenax FC, Masomereas team believes the Promised Land is within reach.

a?When I first came to Manica Diamond, I was told that this project is a serious one and that the ultimate goal was to qualify into the Premier Soccer League. Nothing has changed. A lot of money was invested into this team.

a?We are working towards that goal and judging by the way the players want to play PSL football next year, I believe we are on the right track.

Our closest rivals are not giving us space to breathe but that is good for football and our league,a? Masomere told B-Metro from his base in Manicaland.

Manica Diamond is sponsored by Zimbabwe Consolidated Diamond Company.

For the dream to play in the PSL next year to come into fruition, Manica Diamond must win the Zifa Eastern Region League title and join winners of three other region victors in the Southern, Central and Northern Regions.

Four teams will be relegated in the Castle Lager Premiership and replaced by the same number of teams from Division One leagues.
