League One Cricket resumes

THE Bulawayo Metropolitan League One cricket (2016/ 17) is set to bounce back on Sunday following a two-week mid-season break.

With the two lower leagues having started their games last week, the leagueas fixtures secretary, Victor Mhlanga said the first league had their games delayed because some of the teams were also playing in the Zimbabwe Premier League (ZPL).

The (ZPL) is a national league which features some of the top Metropolitan cricket teams around the country and is periodically played during the Logan Cup.

a?Emakhandeni and BAC were representing Bulawayo in the ZPL, so we had to delay League One by another week. All is ready now and the teams will be in action this weekend,a? said Mhlanga.

The league will resume with Queens playing against BAC while log leaders Roosters will square off against third positioned side, Emakhandeni.

Roosters captain Gift Mavhaire said they would be hoping to maintain their form that has seen them topping the table with 23 points despite the absence of key players.

a?Maintaining the top position is our goal despite losing three players who have been selected to the Tuskers squad for the Logan cup,a? said Mavhaire.

He added that, one of their players had also left the club forA greener pastures in South Africa.

a?We hope the three players, Sean Handirisi, Nkosana Mpofu and Njabulo Ncube, who are returning from the Logan cup tomorrow, will be fit enough to also feature in our Sunday encounter,a? said Mavhaire.
