Inside the success story of the miners

Nkosilodumo Ndebele
WHILE it might be early days in the 2018 Premier Soccer League (PSL) campaign, two mining sides a Ngezi Platinum and FC Platinum are showing early intent of going all the way for the coveted title.

Ngezi Platinum have won eight of their matches and drawn twice against ZPC Kariba and Shabanie, both away from home.

This is the best record, in the opening 10 matches by a top-flight team in the last decade.

Defending champions trail with one point from log leaders Ngezi Platinum who are on 26 points while FC Platinum sit on 25 points.

The race between the two teams has become a familiar one in the Zimbabwean top tier with a lot of soccer pundits saying money is behind the two teamsa success story.

While that may not be debatable, with Dynamos having a slow-paced start of this yearas campaign due to monetary issues that saw the majority of their senior players engaging in strikes, the Ngezi Platinum administration thinks their success is purely hard work and good football.

a?Hard work from everyone involved with the team has brought the success the team has enjoyed so far. The team recruited more quality players this year and that has really improved the performance of the team in general,a? said Ngezi Platinum gaffer Tonderai Ndiraya.

The goal is to clinch the premier soccer league title they lost by a whisker to the defending champions.

Ngezi face CAPS United at the National Sports Stadium in a tricky match this Sunday.

Makepekepe have never lost a league match against the Mhondoro team and last yearas encounter at the same venue ended in a 3-0 victory for the Green Machine.

The miners will seek to maintain the unbeaten streak this weekend.
