A 62-YEAR-old man from Cowdray Park in Bulawayo was dragged to court for calling his wife a baby making machine and overused suitcase.

Andrew Maphosa allegedly told his wife Siphiwe Maphosa (48) that she was useless and was an old suitcase that was used for carrying his children.

The court heard it was not the first time Siphiwe had brought her husband before the court of law for insulting her.

She was granted a protection order early this year and Andrew was ordered not to abuse or demean her.

Siphiwe said her husband did not stop and the habit had worsened.

a?He insults me all the time and if I tell him that I will report him, he threatens to divorce me,a? she said.

She told the court that she was no longer at peace as her husband had gone to the extent of insulting her family.

Siphiwe said her husband was a heartless man who wanted to separate her from her children.

a?He tells me that I donat belong to our family and I should leave him with our kids in peace,a? she said.

Andrew pleaded guilty and told the court that he acted out of anger as his wife was the one who insulted him first.

a?Your worship, I plead for lenience, I did not think my wife would take the issue this far,a? he said.

The presiding magistrate Franklin Mkhwananzi discharged the man and cautioned him to stop verbally abusing his wife.
