SHABANIE Mine’s stocky forward Nigel Papius got the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League’s goal number 400 in a match they were mercilessly beaten by second placed Ngezi Platinum Stars at Mhondoro’s Baobab Stadium.

Papius, who is on loan from FC Platinum, has scored four goals since his move in the second half of the season. He scored the 400th goal of the season from the spot.

The four goals he has scored so far include a brace he picked against Dynamos at Maglas Stadium. Nineteen braces have been scored this season including the one struck by Albert Eonde of FC Platinum in their 3-1 victory over Bulawayo Chiefs three weeks ago.

Former Shabanie striker David Temwanjira has picked two braces, one against Dynamos while at Shabanie and the other at his new club ZPC Kariba against Yadah.

Only three players-Rodwell Chinyengetere, David Temwanjira and Lameck Nhamo- have reached double figures in the scorers’ charts.

Chinyengetere, the reigning Soccer Star of the Year has 12 goals under his belt. Temwanjira has scored 11 and Triangle’s Nhamo is on 10.

The league has witnessed just three hat-tricks from Simba Nhivi while he was at Caps United, Collin Dhuwa from Triangle and Obriel Chirinda of Chicken Inn. The league witnessed its sixth own goal of the season as Carlos Mavhurume of Herentals scored in his own net in their 1-1 draw with Chapungu on 22 August.

Mark Harrison’s Harare city sits on most draws in the league with 13 draws.

Relegation threatened Bulawayo City have recorded most defeats (20) and FC Platinum on least defeats with three.

FC Platinum has the most wins on 19, while the least wins are with Mutare City on three, their latest being their 1-0 triumph over Highlanders.

With a few hat-tricks recorded, 18 players have scored the 19 braces, with Temwanjira managing two braces.

Twenty –four players have been red carded so far in the league with Bulawayo City and Ngezi  Platinum Stars having the most(four red cards each). Only Bulawayo Chiefs, Chicken Inn, Yadah, FC Platinum, Triangle and Black Rhinos are the teams yet to have a player red carded.

A total of 25 matches have so far ended goalless, with Caps United involved in most of those(7), while the two cities Bulawayo and Mutare are yet to be involved in goalless matches.

Bosso’s Adrian Silla scored the 31st goal of the season from the spot. It was the first goal from the spot for Highlanders. Bulawayo Chiefs has scored the most from the spot (five), with Arthur Musiyiwa doing so three times.

Bulawayo City, Chicken Inn, Mutare City, ZPC Kariba, Nichrut and Black Rhinos are the teams yet to score from the spot this season.

Ngezi Platinum Stars are so far the league’s biggest scorers with 44 goals and a club that has conceded most goals is Shabanie Mine. Their goalkeepers have picked the ball from the nets 49 times.

Defending champions FC Platinum have a solid defence as they have conceded only 11 times.
