FORMER Zimbabwe cricket team captain Heath Streak has lauded the roping in of national team players Christopher Mpofu and John Nyumbu into the technical team of the Old Mutual Heath Streak Cricket Academy.
The Bangladesh national team bowling coach said this development was going to go an extra mile in instilling professionalism in their young players from grassroots level.
Streak was speaking at the launch of the inaugural Old Mutual T20 Under-14 tourney that was recently held at his academy where two teams that were sponsored by Holiday Inn and Old Mutual garnered for top honours.
a�?The holding of this tournament has been a huge step going forward and I would like to thank everyone who was involved in running this academy in my absence and I think they did a good job especially in bringing in those two international stars,a�?
Ita��s not everywhere in the world where you find established players coaching youngsters and I believe this will go a long way in grooming our players and instilling professionalism from an early age,a�? he said.
Old Mutual communications consultant Tendai Mutseyekwa said his company was honoured to be associated with the Academy as they were very passionate about developing sport at grassroots level.
