Sukoluhle Ndlovu
Musicians in Gweru have plunged into deep mourning over the passing on of Tasarina, real name Blessing Chibaya who died in a car accident on Sunday night which occurred along Gweru-Shurugwi road. The accident claimed three lives. Jazzy Jazz, a jazz musician based in Gweru took to his Facebook account where he posted a message saying he was deeply shocked and saddened by the tragic death of Chibaya.

The message read a?Chokwadi pasi rinodya. Tasarina Chibaya, gone too soon. The sky was the limit for you my sister. I am honoured to have been a part of your short-lived music journey. Until we meet again. Rest in eternal peacea?.

Another Gweru-based dancehall chanter Legion Doba also said the death of Chibaya has seen the Gweru music industry losing one of its most treasured songbirds.

a?She was a friend and a sister to me. We have shared the stage a lot of times. Her tragic death means the Gweru music industry has lost one of its treasured and rare talents as far as music is concerned. The industry will never be the same without her. MayAA her dear soul rest in peace,a? said Doba.

Another jazz musician, Shingirai Mutizira aka Lady Shingi said it was a loss to the musicians in Gweru.

a?I learnt a lot from her and before her passing on we were working on a collaboration together so it is really a great loss to me and theother musicians in Gweru and the country as a whole. I urge fellow musicians to practise safe driving by avoiding to drive while they are drunka?, said Lady Shingi.

Tasarina, who ventured into music at the young age of 10, died at a time when she had just released her Afro Jazz album Zvakarongeka at the Book Cafe recently.
