A 75-YEAR-Old granny died on the spot after a two-metre deep pit collapsed on her while she was digging for soil to plaster her hut.
Salia Muleya of Macha Village, under chief Sikalenge in Binga died on Friday last week at around 4PM after she was hit by a huge boulder which broke her ribs and hands.
The deceaseda��s relative, Sianjobo Mudimba (55), who had gone to pen her cattle discovered the body.
Matabeleland North police spokesperson Inspector Siphiwe Makonese confirmed the case of sudden death.
a�?We can confirm receiving a case of sudden death of a 75-year-old woman in Binga. The incident occurred at the now deceaseda��s homestead where she was digging soil to plaster her hut from a pit which was about two metres deep.
a�?Apparently, there was a tunnel of about 1,5 metres long and wide enough for an adult to crawl inside at the base of the pit.
a�?While digging, the tunnel suddenly collapsed and it trapped Salia Muleyaa��s whole body. A boulder hit her on the ribs and she sustained crushed ribs and broken hands and she died on the spot,a�? she said.
Inspector Makonese said the deceaseda��s body was discovered by her brother, about an hour later.
A report was made to the police who attended the scene and the body was retrieved from the tunnel.
Muleya sustained broken and protruding ribs and both hands were broken too. She also had bruises all over the body.
