NKULUMANE residents are living in fear after a weapon-wielding gang of six men attacked them.
Speaking to B-Metro, a number of residents said their crime was walking at night.
One of the residents Lindelo Moyo said when the gangsters fight they end up beating any passerby.
a�?We are troubled by the gangsters,a�? he said.
a�?They attack us and have come up with a curfew. They dona��t want to see anybody moving about after 6pm. Anyone who is seen moving about is beaten. I was beaten when I was walking from the bus stop at around 7pm,a�? he said.
A resident, Fransisca Tapawapatsa, said the gangsters attacked her with an iron bar on the head.
a�?I was walking home when a group of boys confronted me and askedA� why I was walking at night. Before I explained, one hit me with an iron bar on the head and I dona��t know what happened next,a�? sheA�A�A�A�A�A�A�A�A�A�A�A�A�A�A�A�A�A�A�A�A�A�A�A�A�A�A�A�A�A�A�A�A�A� said.
She added: a�?After that I was ferried to Maqhawe clinic where I gained consciousness and I was given medication.a�?
A resident, Similo Moyo, said she escaped rape by a whisker.
a�?They attempted to rape me but I managed to run away and reported the matter to the police,a�? she said.
Ward 20 councillor, Gideon Mangena, confirmed the wave of attacks in theA�A�A�A�A� suburb.
a�?The crime rate is on the increase in this area due to that I have organised a meeting with residents to find ways on how to solve the problem,a�? he said.
He added that police had since been roped in.
a�?I spoke to the officer in charge at Nkulumane Police Station. We need police to monitor the situation,a�? he said.
