CASTLE Lager Premier Soccer League newbies Bulawayo Chiefs have charmed Serie A giants AS Roma with the latter revealing that they are now keen followers of Amakhosi Amahle.
Last Friday, AS Roma could not help but announce on their official twitter account that they now back the Zimbabwean side.
The development followed Chiefs’ post wishing AS Roma well ahead of their Roman derby tie against Lazio over the past weekend that saw Roma thump their opponents 3-1.
Reacting to the post “As we retire to bed this Friday, we want to send a shout out to our brothers @ASRomaEN.
Greetings from Zimbabwe and we are wishing you all the best in the Roman Derby tomorrow. Beat Lazio! Our Ninjas learn a lot from you #WeAreByoChiefs.”, Roma declared that Amakhosi Amahle are now their favourite club in the country.
“Thank you @BulawayoChiefs. It’s now official — you are our No.1 team in Zimbabwe,” posted AS Roma before their league triumph that however, saw their defender Federico Fazio going from villain to hero in a pulsating derby match.
Fazio made an awful mistake to gift Lazio an equaliser midway through the second half but, after Aleksandar Kolarov put Roma back in front with a free kick against his old club, made amends by heading their third goal.
It was Roma’s seventh win in their last nine meetings with Lazio in all competitions and pulled them up to fifth place in Serie A with 11 points, one place and one point behind their opponents.
Lazio, winners of their last five matches in all competitions, dominated the early exchanges but Roma struck the first blow in the 45th minute.
A long ball was launched into the area, Lazio defender Luiz Felipe and goalkeeper Thomas Strakosha collided and the ball ran loose to Lorenzo Pellegrini who cleverly backheeled it into the goal.
With close to 4 800 followers Chiefs’ evergreen presence on twitter has seen the big boys, Highlanders, Chicken Inn and Caps United, taking to interacting with their followers instead of using the social media platform as a notice board.
The Caps United Twitter account has over 14 000 followers and is getting creative by the day by throwing in witty football jokes coupled with team news, making its presence bold online.
Poking fun at opponents (all in good humour, of course) to ingenious creativity Bulawayo Chiefs, among other local clubs, are showing that the game in town has changed.
A jab aimed at an adversary, a joke poking fun at an opponent or just plain banter after beating an arch rival, are what Amakhosi Amahle, are now well known for doing in the process taking football rivalry to the next level.
B-Metro Sport is reliably informed that the face behind the Bulawayo Chiefs’ twitter account is Thulani “Javas” Sibanda, a celebrated artiste who was with then globe trotting Siyaya Arts.
We reveal that former local league champions, Chicken Inn, have roped in another artiste Nkululeko Nkala to take care of their twitter account.
