SOUTHERN Region Five-A-side League executive members last week met their affiliatesa�� representatives as part of preparations for the annual Impact Mining Suppliers bankrolled Heroes Cup tournament.
a�?It was a fruitful meeting and all the clubs committed to taking part in the tournament. Further consultations will be done with our sponsors and we will soon announce when we are going to have the first round matches of the contest,a�? said Southern Region Five-A-side chairman Philani Banda.
In the previous edition of the tournament, Flying Stars, won the Impact Mining Suppliers Heroes Cup after beating Nust 5-3 in the final played at Football For Hope Centre in Gwabalanda, Bulawayo.
Six teams a�� Flying Stars, Nust, Cash Money, Bulawayo Artists, Fox and Amabhubesi a�� took part in the two-day tournament.
On their way to the final, Nust emerged Group A winners after beating Flying Stars 5-2 in the opening pool game and Cash Money 2-1 to progress to the semi-finals.
Flying Stars booked a semi-final slot as Group A runners-up to Nust after dispatching Cash Money 4-2.
Nust went on to beat Group B runners-up Bulawayo Artists 5-4 after penalty shoot-outs in the semi-finals with their game having ended 2-2 while Flying Stars proved hot to handle for Group B winners Fox whom they clobbered 9-2.
Flying Stars corrected the mistakes that they made during the group stages as they beat Nust 5-3 in the final to take home the $100 prize money.
Nust went away with $70 while the Bulawayo Artists got $50 for winning the third place play-off after beating Fox 8-6.
Meanwhile, the Southern Region Five-A-side League action will on Saturday enter round five.
Bottom placed Street Set will have a date with Cash Money who are smarting from a 6-2 defeat at the hands of defending champions Bulawayo Artists.
Following their 11 -2 triumph over hapless Fox, pacesetters Flying Stars will do battle with second placed Bulawayo Artists in a top of the table clash.
Bruised Kilmarnock face Amabhubesi. The former are seated on position four and are tied on seven points with their Saturdaya��s opponents.
