THE semi-finals of this year’s edition of the Southern Region of Five A-Side Soccer League are set to take place on Sunday at Bulawayo’s Grassroots Soccer Football for Hope Centre in the high density suburb of Gwabalanda.
The contest’s quarter-finals were played a fortnight ago. The league’s chairman Philani Banda said the first semi-final will feature Flying Stars and Ambhubesi and the second semifinal tie will see Cash Money take on Fox.
“The semi-finals of this year’s Independence Cup competition will be played on Sunday in Gwabalanda. The two triumphant clubs will meet in the final match that will be played on Independence Day at the same venue,” said Banda adding that the tournament is sponsored to the tune of $300 by Bulawayo-based Impact Agencies Mining Suppliers.
Banda said they were grateful to Impact Agencies Mining Suppliers and their association will continue to look for partners that can aid the sport to grow.
“We’re grateful to Impact Mining Suppliers whom we think will help us to stage a competitive tournament. It is our hope that this sponsorship will inspire other companies that might see value in partnering us and developing the sport in Bulawayo and beyond,” he said.
Meanwhile, Banda said the 2018 Southern Region Five-A-Side League action will resume on the weekend of 28-29 April. The Southern Region Five-A-side League has 10 clubs under its umbrella. Nationally the game is run by the futsal and beach soccer committee chairman Felton Kamambo.
