Fake robbery lands actors in court

Two youthful filmmakers based in Gweru will spend the next three months behind bars for simulating a robbery at a local supermarket using a toy pistol.Twenty-one-year-old Nyasha Chimedza and Patience Tafireyi (18) from Mkoba 20 were found guilty of assault when they appeared before magistrate Pathekile Msipa.

Prosecutor Kelvin Guveya told the court that on 6 March at around 7:50am, the duo went into M and M Investments in Mkoba 18.

Chimedza produced a toy firearm and handed it to Tafireyi who pointed it at the cashier and demanded cash while he ordered everyone to lie down.

Fearing for his life, the cashier told Tafireyi to take the cash in the till.

It took the prowess of another employee who sneaked behind Tafireyi and grabbed him from behind.

The actors then tried to explain that they were actors who wanted to assess peoplea��s natural reaction to robberies.

The cashier, however, could have none of it and reported the matter to the police leading to the arrest of the duo.

The duo is behind the production of My Temptation and Mabhanditi and the scene was supposed to appear in their film Dangerous Game.
