Fungai Muderere recently in Pretoria, South Africa
FORMER Highlanders and national team goalkeeper Munyaradzi Diya was recently beaten by ex Dynamos goalminder Artwell Mukandi to a lucrative Mozambique deal, B Metro Sport has learnt.
Diya, who is in the books of Castle Lager Premier Soccer League outfit How Mine, reportedly went for a week-long trial stint with top Mozambique club Liga Muculmana and failed to clinch a deal.
He was then followed by Mukandi who took two days to impress the powers-that-be at Liga Muculumana.
In an interview Mukandi’s agent Gibson Mahachi, who was part of the large Zimbabwean contingent that watched the CAF Champions League preliminary round second leg match between Chicken Inn and Mamelodi Sundowns in Pretoria, South Africa, said Mukandi had since penned a two-year deal with the Mozambique side.
“Mukandi recently signed a two-year deal with Liga Muculmana. This was after the club assessed him for two days.
He (Mukandi) went for trials after Munyaradzi Diya who is not my client,” said Mahachi.
Diya has previously attended trials with South Africa’s Absa Premiership side Golden Arrows where he also failed to land a contract.
Asked about Mukandi’s goalkeeping abilities, Mahachi said the player was capable of doing well in Maputo.
“Mukandi is a good goalkeeper and I believe he will leave a mark in Mozambique. He gained a lot of experience at Dynamos and Monomotapa.
“He is looking forward to a successful stay in Mozambique. Hopefully he will soon get another profitable deal in other foreign leagues. I believe that will greatly help him to develop in his footballing career,” added Mahachi.
Early this year Mukandi indicated he would be leaving the Glamour Boys while midfield talisman Ronald Chitiyo and Blessing Moyo left the club for Harare City with the Glamour Boys in the process managing to land the signature of Triangle midfielder Tichaona Chipunza who is coming in as a free agent.
