2015A Premier Soccer League champions Chicken Inn are optimistic that their midfielder Innocent Muchaneka, who recently sneaked out of the country to undergo trials at South Africaas ABSA Premiership side Maritzburg United, will make the grade.

Mucheneka, who was expected back in the country on Wednesday started training with Martizburg United early last week.

a?Heas a quality player having started the season on a high note. Normally if our players go for trials in South Africa they impress and the fact that we are a big brand in South Africa will make it easy for Innocent to get a contract,a? said Chicken Inn secretary-general Tavengwa Hara.

Renowned players that include Tendai Ndoro,A Kudakwashe Mahachi, Danny Phiri, Edmore Chirambadare, Mitchel Katsavairo and Teenage Hadebe played for Gamecocks and went on to join different clubs in the lucrative Mzansias Absa Premiership.

Mucheneka, a former Hwange player, had a stellar 2017 season in Chicken Inn colours but missed a chance to make it into the Soccer Stars calendar by a few votes.

His agent Gibson Mahachi told our sister paper The Herald that they were still to hear if Martizburg United were interested in the player.

a?It was an international break so the coaches there might have had more time to assess him other than when they were busy with their league match preparations. The transfer window there is closed for now. The players they want might be moving in June not now,a? said Mahachi.

Meanwhile, Baroka FC have confirmed the signing of Zimbabweas reigning Goalkeeper of the Year, Elvis Chipezeze fromA Chicken Inn.

According to Baroka CEO,Morgan Mamilla, Chipezeze signed a three-year deal with Bakgakga.

The 28-year-old keeper is set to replace Oscarine Masuluke who parted ways with the Limpopo-based club after being found guilty of misconduct.

a?We have signed the goalkeeper. Itas a three-year deal,a? Mamilla told KickOf.com.

Chipezeze is highly rated in Zimbabwe and is expected to take the number one jersey at the club next season.

Chipezeze had an epic 2015 season helping Chicken Inn to clinch the championship, and earning himself a spot on the Soccer Starsa calendar.

He went on to win the goalkeepersa gong after keeping 12 clean sheets.
