Champions Whawha face MSU

Victoria Mushunje

WHAHA have claimed the dues of hard work after they were promoted into the top flight as champions of the ZIFA Central Division One League.

The prison guards as the Gweru side has become to be known in the football fraternity are set to meet Midlands State University who lost the plot and threw in the towel after they lost in a Midlands derby played in Zvishavane against FC Platinum- U19s by two goals to nil.

Whawha have nothing to lose as they have amassed an unassailable lead by four points which makes the weekend game nothing but a dead rubber when the two heavyweights in the league come face to face at the MSU grounds on Saturday.

The Gweru champions only lost 12 points in the league after sustaining three defeats and the other awarded to Tongogara as Whawha had not yet paid the affiliation fees.

The Prisons and correctional service side shrugged off the earlier embarrassment in what threatened to derail their campaign to soldier on and claim the championship but they still have to fulfil the last game of the league with MSU poised to fight on to finish on second position on the log.

Whawha announced their arrival into the league after managing a slender one nil victory over yet another Gweru based side Gweru City who had threatened to stand in their hour of celebration before the weekend game at Wilson Fields Stadium.

In other matches, ZRP Beitbridge who also let the championship for Whawha at a silver platform when they lost to Blanket mine at the last weekend 2-1 will this week finish up their maiden season by facing Silo United at Dulibadzimu Stadium.

ZRP will mark what has been a wonderful and brilliant first year at their home ground hoping to show the Beitbridge football fans how their journey has penned out. The Beitbridge based side were the dark houses in the league as they tried but to no avail to find a ticket to the elite boyas league.

Fourth placed Chrome Stars will play Blanket Mine while F C Platinum will try to sneak in to finish forth as they are currently fifth as they play Vumbachikwe in Gwanda.

Saturday

Blanket Mine vs Chrome Stars (Blanket), Gaths Mine vs Chemvuri Pirates (Gaths Mine), ZRP Beitbridge vs Silo United (Dulibadzimu), Vumbachikwe vs FC Platinum (Pelandaba), Zvishavane Stars vs Gweru City (Mandava), Whawha vs MSU (Whawha)
