LOCAL football followers should brace themselves for more action via live steaming of matches on the Premier Soccer Leagueas social media page on Facebook as the league pushes to market its brand and visibility.
The PSL made its live streaming debut on its Facebook page in a match between Ngezi Platinum Stars and Highlanders at Baobab Stadium in Mhondoro on 28 April.
Soccer live streaming is the broadcasting of football matches on the internet using oneas laptop, tablet or smartphone.
It can be an invaluable source of live soccer viewing especially to fans outside the country where the leagueas official broadcaster might not be accessible.
a?We are happy with the response we got from the live streaming debut; itas an area with great potential as we try to market the PSL brand. We will certainly continue live streaming selected matches in our endeavour to increase brand visibility,a? said PSL media liaison officer Kudzai Bare.
A few days ago the PSL announced the broadcasting rights deal had been awarded to the Zimbabwe Broadcasting Corporation.
PSL matches will now be aired live on ZBC television and radio stations.
The continued live streaming of PSL games on its Facebook page will come as a relief to Zimbabweans living in South Africa, Botswana and abroad who do not have access to ZBC television and radio.
However, although live streaming of football matches online might be greeted enthusiastically by fans, it may not be so welcome to clubs and leagues who might lose valuable revenue in this way.
It is when the rights to football matches having been sold exclusively to another platform, such as television, but are subsequently shown as live streams over the internet that issues arise.
a?The finer details of the PSL and ZBC broadcasting deal will be released soon but we donat foresee any problems by continuing live streaming of matches,a? said Bare.
