BULAWAYO Polytechnic student Velma Madimutsa was last Friday crowned Miss Tertiary Education Festival of the Arts in Zimbabwe 2014 (TIFAZ).
The 21-year-old model who is studying Purchasing and Supply at Bulawayo Polytechnic was crowned Miss TIFAZ ahead of other 18 contestants drown from all teachersa colleges and polytechnics.
Madimutsa could not hide her joy after the contest which was held at Mkoba Teachers College in Gweru.
a?I am very happy and proud of myself. The competition was challenging and at one point I felt nervous. I owe this to my designer,a? she said.
The model, who admires former Miss Malaika Brita Masalethulini, has been a recipient of several accolades since her debut modelling contest at the age of 14.
a?I started modelling when I was doing my Form Two at Munyaradzi High School in Kwekwe. I have received several awards in different competitions.
a?In 2007 I won Miss Kadoma Junior and was later crowned Miss Kadoma Schools. The following year I was crowned Miss Stars Kadoma, Miss Fabulous Kadoka, and I was the first princess in the Miss Winter competition,a? she said.
Despite her passion in modelling, she disclosed that she has not received much support to pursue her career.
a?The modelling industry in Zimbabwe has been faced with a shortage of sponsors to enable us to take the career to greater heights. If opportunity comes I will jump at the first chance as my wish is to be crowned Miss Zimbabwe,a? she said.
Velma took over from Miss TIFAZ 2013 Chivanga Kudakwashe. Junior Nyamayedenga and Loveness Dube were crowned 1st and 2nd princesses respectively.
