Outside of the amazing fashion bloggers in the City, there is our general love for fashion as a people.
In the past week, in a period of 24 hours I attended two such events. One of them was by upcoming fashion house House of Mutu Byo led by Nkosilathi Nkomo who is becoming a force to reckon with by the day.
Though the event started two hours later itas amazing how those that had come for the event (dressed for that matter) lingered around while the organisers started their set up. The event went on till around 10.30pm.
A few years ago Nkosilathi was just a guy with a passion to make garments, now he is a whole collection.
The second event was the Fingers Modelling Agency graduation ceremony. I have attended this event for the past three years.
It has become a calendar event for those with a taste for beauty and fashion. Some of the graduates have gone to be local and international brands, the likes of Shadel Noble, Keith Siamloboka popularly known as Oliver Keith or NaJesca (Zim Achievers 2018 winner), reigning Miss Tourism Ashley Morgan and Nonhlanhla Dube 1st princess, former Miss Bulawayo Sizi Ndlovu and Nadia Gori and amazing model and poet Nomakhosazana Ncube.
Every single one of the graduation events is packed. And with that this yearsa Miss Tourism will be in Bulawayo I can onlyA wait with excitement for the event. Sarah Mpofu surely has made her mark in the fashion circles.
There was also the Intwasa Fashion show run by Gilmore Moyo. The event was one of Intwasaas flagship events to a point the winners would either get apprenticeship with Edgars or travel to fashion events in Durban.
Though it folded there was always a rush for the tickets no matter what the ticket cost was. Fashion has a ready audience or at least an appetite. I am not sure about it being able to make money but itas at a good starting point.
As part of the dress up events Bulawayo Arts Awards who are in their second year this year have been added. Finally we get a real outcome for fashion designers.
I accompanied a friend to one designer just this week. I can guarantee he may just be the best dressed at the awards this year. He went to buy an outfit specifically for the awards.
With only a few weeks to go and we the organisers trying to pull out all the stops this is by far going to be the biggest fashion event of the city if not the country.
Fashion bloggers are on board, we even have stylists. Red carpet is planned for as a stand-alone event. I am stressed just thinking about the awards. Come 26 May, we do this.
Bulawayo is the City of Kings and Queens, letas show off our style. Tickets of the BAA are already out; $10, $15 and $25 for General, VIP and VVIP respectively. Grab yours now on 0772214373, 0772903459.
Until next week, be safe . . . @nkuenkala
