BULAWAYO Christian League (BCL) 2018 season commenced last week with five more teams having joined.

The teams which joined the league are Rising Stars, AFM, ZCC, Grace Christian Church (GCC) and St Patrickas.

From the teams that participated last year, Nazarene is the only team that will not be taking part in the 2018 campaign due to failure to pay affiliation fees.

This yearas campaign is going to be highly competitive as the new teams are proving to be in the league to compete not to add numbers.

Debutants AFM beat Word of Life (WOFL) Nkulumane 9-1 making a statement of intent.

Defending Champions Sangano Legends believe they will have to walk an extra mile in preparation and playing their matches if they hope to defend their title this season because competition is stiff.

a?Itas still early days to judge but we are trying to maintain the standard we have set in the past seasons.

a?The competition is going to be tough with the new teams but we are not afraid, they must bring all they have got and we will surely bring what we have got,a? said Christian league leader Timothy Mandidzadza.

Flying Stars buttressed the point that they were eyeing the title which they lost by a whisker to Sangano Legends last season.

a?We will be hoping to take the title home this season. We are a strong side and we are working very hard to make sure that we take the cup home at the end of the season,a? said Flying Stars coach Evans Maduku.

Flying Stars managed to beat Sangano Legends at the Kings and Queens tournament last season which is giving them hope that they can do the same in the league.
