AS the City of Bulawayo continues to host a number of festivities to mark the citya��s 120 years in existence, the City Council is promoting up and coming artistes by sponsoring competitions.
The 120 years celebration preliminary competitions have been held on different genres namely imbube, traditional, contemporary and music.
One of the organisers, Trust a�?Madoskya�? Gumbo said this Fridaya��s music competition is the fourth segment where 20 groups are set to sing out their melodies to outshine each other.
a�?We have managed to register 20 up and coming musicians among them are the Hurricanz who recently represented the country in the Street Battle Africa. Last week we held imbube competition which was won by Iwisa.
a�?Before the imbube competition there was the contemporary dance competition which was scooped by this yeara��s Chibuku Neshamwari provincial winners Sokunjalo MaAfrica.A� There was also the traditional competition which was won by Ezimnyama Arts Ensemble. The winners pocketed $200,a�? he said.
The winners in all the dance competitions are set to perform during the main celebrations which will be held on 29 August at Nyathi Youth Centre in Mpopoma.
a�?Those, who will excel during the preliminary competitions, will be afforded the opportunity to perform during the 120 years celebrations which will be held at Nyathi Youth Centre.
a�?The celebrations will be held on 29 August. A number of delegates are set to be part of the celebrations,a�? said Madolo.
Guest performance will be provided by Kwabatsha of the Bhachi fame. The celebrations are being sponsored by the Bulawayo City Council under the 120 years celebrations.
