Bulawayo to honour top athletes

THE Bulawayo Athletics Club (BAC) is set to honour top athletes that excelled in the 2017 athletics calendar at an awards ceremony sponsored by local businessman Raj Modi in December.

The awards ceremony will held on the same day that BAC hosts the third edition of the Liquor Hub 10KM Fun Race, also bankrolled by Modi.

The awards will honour athletes from grassroots level in the National Association of Primary Heads (Naph), the National Association of Secondary Heads (Nash), to professional athletes that are based in the Bulawayo Metropolitan Province.

a�?Ita��s an all inclusive awards ceremony that will honour outstanding athletes from primary to secondary schools, athletes that participated in the National Youth Games in Hwange in August, cross country as well as field and track athletes.

a�?BAC will first host the Liquor Hub 10KM Fun in the morning of 3 December and then the awards afterwards,a�? said BAC chairman Manuel Mpofu.

Registration for the Liquor Hub 10KM Fun Race is already open with senior athletes in both the male and female categories expected to fork out $5 each while junior athletes, drawn from various schools around Bulawayo, will each be charged $3.

Proceeds from the race will be donated to a charitable organisation.

The senior men and women winner will walk away with $500 while the first and second runner-up will pocket $300 and $200 respectively. There will also be prizes for junior men, junior women, men and women in wheelchairs.
