Bulawayo fashionistas to be rewarded

Fashion designers in the City of Kings, who have always complainedA they are neglected, will have a chance to shine next month when the Summer Fashion and Style awards are held on Valentineas Day.

As the first of their kind to be held in Bulawayo, the awards have set out their objective as a?to pioneer with the vision to explore new territory and the ability to set the agenda for style conscious consumersa?.

The award show is particularly timely, as some of the platforms that expose and reward designers in the city have started to dwindle on the back of last yearas financial struggles.

The Intwasa Fashion Show failed to take place last year while the Matabeleland Fashion Week also seems to be in limbo. This is despite the fact that the cityas models, like the reigning Miss Tourism, Ashley Morgan are soaring even further, while fashion designers like Thembani Mubochwa, Saneliso Mpofu and Nkululeko Ncube are breaking boundaries both in Zimbabwe and the region.

In a statement, the organiser of the event Imelda Moyo outlined what they were looking for in potential winners.

a?A leader and not a follower, our winner will have a fresh approach to fashion creating innovative collections and unafraid to make waves. Our competition seeks to recognize those that can take the spark of inspiration and turn it into something that can turn hands and really stand-out on the catwalk,a? the statement read.
