SOUTH Africa-based jazzman Bothwell a?Bekezelaa? Nkomo has congratulated South African Afro-fusion artiste Samkelo Mdolomba otherwise known as Samthing Soweto for winning big at the 24th edition of the South African Music Awards (Sama).
The awards, which were held at Sun City Resort in North West, saw the Akalamali hit-maker scooping three awards which include Best Collaboration, Highest Airplay Composer and Highest Airplay Song.
Bekezela who also won the Song of the Year gong at the second edition of the Roil Bulawayo Arts Awards (RoilBAA) held last month revealed Akalamali was a hit across South Africa and Zimbabwe, therefore it deserved all the awards it scooped at the SAMAs.
a?I have performed alongside Samthing Soweto on a number of occasions, he deserved the awards as he is a talent gem and his music proved to be a hit in most parts of Southern Africa,a? said Bekezela.
From the horseas mouth, Samthing Soweto who is the former founding member of Afro-Accapella group The Soil, revealed the song revived his musical career, thanks to Sam El Musician who believed in him and asked for a collaboration.
a?I am grateful for the awards I received at the Samas they really proved God was at work. All along I was being tested for my patience in music especially after leaving The Soil six years ago.
a?Even though I was still pursuing my solo career, the Akalamali song is one project where God gave me a chance to prove my talent, his timing is always the best. I thank Sam El Musician for approaching me for this collaboration as it has given positive marks in both of our careers,a? Samthing Soweto said.
After touring the whole of South Africa performing alongside each other in some concerts, Bekezela who had a chance to perform at the RoilBAA but missed them due to other commitments revealed he is keen to make a date for a show in his mother city.
Perhaps the right platform will be the Intwasa Arts Festival, where he revealed last year that he was making efforts for him and other Mutherland artistes including Vusi Nova, Ntando Bangani and new boys in South African showbiz 047 to feature in the festival.
For Samthing Soweto who hasnat set foot in the country itas his wish to come and perform in the city of Kings and Queens so he can meet and connect with his loyal fans.
a?Many South African artistes have performed in Zimbabwe and the people from the country love our music. It has always been my wish to perform in the country and given an opportunity I will be grateful to meet my fans,a? said Samthing Soweto.
Meanwhile, after his single Amanzi where he featured Ntando had a positive reception in the South of Limpopo and locally as it has been on the number one spot on Skyz Metro FMas top 20 for over a month, Bekezela revealed he will be releasing another single on 18 June which he promised fans will fall in love with.
