BULAWAYO Athletic Club (BAC)as second string team secured a spot in the Bulawayo Metropolitan Cricket Association Division Two league alongside Lupane State University (LSU), who survived the chop to Third Division at the expense of Nkulumane-based side, Glenkara.
BAC 2 who topped last seasonas third division league continued to impress when they saw off Glenkara by 53 runs in the second division playoffs held at Emakhandeni Cricket Club on Saturday last week.
The club has two teams with the first team playing in the First Division of the metropolitan league while the second string known as BAC 2 will be in the Second Division.
The vice-chairman of the club, Fungai Shanganya said they were impressed by the performance of their second team.
a?Itas a very huge achievement. We are looking forward to contesting for the title in the Second Division of the league,a? Shanganya said.
LSU who anchored the log on 13 points together with Glenkara added to the Nkulumane-based outfitas woes handing them a 110 runs defeat.
It was a battle of the losers, but the students managed to seize the day when they survived the Second Division chop. Glenkara were demoted to Third Division.
LSU team captain Nhlanhla Mathe said it was their attitude that saw them play well.
a?Our batting was good and one of our players Ayanda Nkala took five wickets and scored 34 runs on debut,a? Mathe said.
Their last seasonas performance was below par because most of their players were on industrial attachment. They then had a makeshift squad.
a?This time around, preparations are going well, most of our players are back and we have been bolstered by four first-year students who have shown signs of good cricket,a? he said.
