THE Zimbabwe karate team is leaving no stone unturned in preparation for the Africa Karate Championship that will be held in Kigali, Rwanda, this month.
Competitions are slated for August 28-02 September.
a?We have our team ready and they have been preparing for this event since last year from their respective provinces guided by the provincial technical directors,a? said one of the organisers Gerald Muusha.
The Karate Union which lacks resources to camp has decided to improvise by having more frequent training for athletes.
a?Since we donat have enough resources to do a camp we have decided to at least train with the whole team one session on Fridays, two or three sessions on Saturday and one session on Sunday for the next two weekends,a? said Muusha.
He reached out for the corporate world to chip in.
a?Our fundraising team is looking for funds from the corporate world to make this trip a success. We are looking forward to raising $1 400 per individual,a? said Muusha.
Meanwhile, karetakas got an opportunity to train with the world chief instructor Shihan Tomiyama at Raylton Sports Club in Bulawayo last weekend.
The purpose of the karate guruas visit was for the standardisation and upgrading of the karate practitioners who practise the kufokan style for their Dan gradings (black belt).
a?Training with Shihan Tomiyama is great, every time there is always something to learn and we also learnt a new kata as well.a?
a?Overall, he was impressed with our standard and will pay us a visit next year on a day yet to be announced,a?said Muusha.
