Mhango stays put at FC Platinum

SOUTH Africa’s Absa Premiership side Maritzburg United and two Mzansi’s national First Division outfits Witbank Spurs and Mbombela United recently made enquiries about FC Platinum’s holding midfielder Winston Mhango, B-Metro Sport has learnt.

Mhango was among the 2016 Soccer Stars of the Year. He recently penned a two-year contract with the Zvishavane-based side.

“A couple of South African clubs that include Maritzburg United, Witbank Spurs and Mbombela United recently made enquiries on Winston Mhango.  However, as his manager I told Mhango not to concentrate on birds that are not in his hands.

“How could he concentrate on birds that are in the forest? We only received calls from the clubs and this is the reason why we decided that he signs a new contract at FC Platinum. In that regard he will tend to benefit more if any deal from South Africa comes through,” said George Deda.
Mhango, a former Hwange player, was influential in FC Platinum’s title charge, where they eventually finished second behind Caps United, a club which was also after his signature.
He played for Hwange for the 2012 season before following his coach Tenant Chilumba, who was in charge of FC Platinum in 2013.
He escaped death by a whisker in October when a vehicle he was travelling in was involved in a head-on collision and claimed the life of one FC Platinum fan.
Mhango suffered a cut on the left leg while his teammate Charles Sibanda lost two teeth, but they recovered within a week.
He scored five goals, four in the league and one in the Chibuku Super Cup against Chapungu, during the 2016 season.
