Zifa organises Bob @92 curtain raiser

ZIFA has organised a curtain raiser between Masvingo City and Triangle United to be played at Mucheke Stadium in Masvingo Friday as part of the Bob@92 Cup celebrations.

The football mother-body is yet to come up with the list of teams that will battle it out for the actual Bob@92 Cup Tournament. Dynamos are the winners of last year’s edition.

Details will be availed on Monday when Zifa concludes consultations with other stakeholders.

Zifa communications manager Xolisani Gwesela explained: “The match at Mucheke is a curtain raiser before the actual dates and teams that will take part in the Bob@92 Cup are announced,” he said.

The rest of the ground is pegged at $3 while fans seated at the wings section of the stadium will fork out $5. VIP section will cost $10.

Last month Zifa made the decision to take over the running of the cup tournament — meant to celebrate the birthday of President Robert Mugabe — from the previous organisers as a result of a string of boobs in the last two years.

The decision by the Philip Chiyangwa-led Zifa executive to take over the affairs of the annual cup is seen as a move to ensure the smooth running of the tournament after a string of boobs by the organising committee in 2014 and last year.

In 2014, the organisers of the annual cup led by chairman Stan Kasukuwere used regional football body Cosafa tickets in an elimination match between Highlanders and Harare City FC at Barbourfields.

Instead of being issued Bob90 tickets upon entry spectators were handed tickets of a Cosafa Senior Challenge Cup match played on October 31 2009 between South Africa and Mozambique.

Last year scores of fans were left frustrated after encountering difficulties in gaining entry at Rufaro Stadium for the final of the Bob91 Super Cup after a few gates were opened at the venue.

Rowdy fans resorted to scaling the high security walls while others went head-on with police officers to gain entry to watch the final between Dynamos and Caps United.
