Bosso old guard extend stay

HIGHLANDERS’ veteran players that include skipper Felix Chindungwe, Eric Mudzingwa, Ralph “Banolila” Matema and goalminder Ariel Sibanda have reportedly renewed their contracts  with the black and white army.

The quartet was among some of the club’s players whose previous contracts ran out on 31 December last year.

“Those who want to stay with us have already signed new contracts. You can go to our training sessions and you will see the players that I’m talking about because they are already at work. Those that are looking for greener pastures let them do so,” said Highlanders chief executive officer Ndumiso Gumede.

On Wednesday, the club’s training session at Babourfields Stadium had  Chindungwe, Matema,  Sibanda , Mudzingwa, Simon Munawa, enterprising King Nadolo and Godfrey Makaruse among others in attendance while hard running Bruce Kangwa and Knox Mutizwa are with the senior national team that is taking part in  the African Nations Championship (Chan) finals.

The club has already failed to lure back Nqobizitha Masuku, Obadiah Tarumbwa, Teenage Hadebe and Mthulisi Maphosa.

Masuku recently joined FC Platinum while Tarumbwa and Hadebe moved across town to permanently join Chicken Inn from Bantu Rovers. Last season, the trio was on a season’s loan to Highlanders from Tshintsha Guluva.

Maphosa, a former Zimbabwe international, is targeting a switch to newly-promoted Premier Soccer League side Bulawayo City.

Maphosa’s contract at Highlanders expired on 31 December having spent the better part of the past season on the sidelines due to a nagging knee injury.

He hopes to impress City coach together with ex Bosso captain Gilbert Banda who appeared to have fallen out of favour with his employers How Mine, as he did not feature for the club in the last games of the campaign last term.

Also on the Bulawayo City radar is Hwange’s Nkosana Siwela and Malvin Nyakabangwe, who played for relegated WhaWha last season.

Among those already signed by Bulawayo City are former Chicken Inn striker Mkhokheli Dube,Makhosi Ncube, Lewis “Rambo” Ncube, Qinani “Chroma” Sibanda, Welcome Ndiweni, Warren Dube, goalkeepers Ndodana Sibanda, Archford Katsande and Aaron Ngwenya.
