Soma sex ban over Bosso

HIGHLANDERS coach Amini Soma-Phiri went for two months without sex after his wife embargoed him for volunteering to rescue Bosso from relegation.

Speaking during the club’s press conference Soma-Phiri revealed how he had to endure long nights of agony, pain and frustration as his wife could not fathom the fact that he had offered his services to the club for free.

When Soma-Phiri and Cosmas Zulu took over at Bosso their mandate was to rescue Bosso’s sinking ship at whose helm was the Bongani Mafu-led technical department.

They were offering their services for free while only being entitled to $350 winning bonus.

“My wife and I spent almost two months without sleeping with each other as she could not understand why I took up the offer knowing fully well I had a family to feed, but I am a brave man of strong conviction, I soldiered on knowing fully well I was doing this for the team I love,” said Soma-Phiri.

It seems it’s not the first time that Soma-Phiri has been called to rescue Bosso yet the glory goes elsewhere.

During the season of 97/98 when all the Bosso senior players went on strike Soma-Phiri remained the only senior player in the squad while the then coach Madida Ndlovu promoted junior players into first team.

It is the same team that went on to clinch the championship a record four times the following seasons with the likes of Siza Khoza, Thulani “Biya”Ncube ,Dazzy Kapenya  and Zenzo Moyo among others.

In 2012 Soma-Phiri took over as the team manager while Kelvin Kaindu was the coach taking over from Mkhuphali Masuku who had left the team on position eight.

In that season the team went for 23 games without a loss and finished second behind Dynamos on goal difference yet his contract was not renewed the following year with the executive opting for the late Willard Mashinkila-Khumalo.

This season he took the team away from near relegation and they finished on position six and again the club executive is choosing to ignore his contributions as they have made it known that they are hiring a new coach for next season.

“I won’t refuse an offer at Bosso but it has to be a respectable position and I need to be trusted too and truth be told I won’t be jobless as I am the man of the moment and many teams are after my signature,” said Soma-Phiri.
