UNHERALDED Tino Benza scored the first goal of the second half of the Castle Larger Premier Soccer League as Herentals edged second-placed Ngezi Platinum Stars 1-0 at the National Sports Stadium last weekend.
With the PSL returning after a two-week break and sitting on 299 goals, the 17-year-old player, a former student at Harare’s Peter House College got the 300th goal of the season.
Interestingly, his teammate, Blessing Maunganidze got this season’s goal number 200 while Highlanders’ Gabriel Nyoni scored the 100th goal of the 2018 season that has reached a 315 goal mark.
A total of 16 goals were scored last weekend ahead of PSL’s Week 19 action.
It was a big goal for Benza as well as for a team that has struggled to get the goals and this meant that they are now a goal shy of reaching double figures in the goals they have scored after 18 matches.
The students who were promoted into the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League from Northern Region Division One last year, won’t care much about their poor finishing as this was only their fifth win of the season.
B-Metro Sports gets deeper into PSL action in numbers.
With two defeats away to Bulawayo Chiefs and home to ZPC Kariba the defending Champions and log leaders FC Platinum have the least defeats.
Only two players have managed hat-tricks so far and these are Simba Nhivi of Caps United in their 4-3 victory over Nichrut in Gweru during Week 8 as well as Collins Dhuwa when Triangle beat Dynamos in Week 15.
The second least number of defeats is three and it belongs to two teams (Chicken Inn and Harare City. )
